A Short History…
For over 40 years Robert K has been entertaining audiences on Southern Vancouver Island. He started his musical journey as the guitarist/vocalist in the Brigham Bros. Band, a top 40 trio that did the Legion circuit in the 70’s.
His next project was as the bass player/vocalist in “Vintage Rock & Roll Band,” Victoria’s top show band in the late 70’s & 80’s. Robert, better known to many as “The Big Bopper” made the transition from being the bass player to being the band’s Tenor Sax player. His energy, humour and rich vocals made him a fan favourite.
Then came a 14 year stint as the Bass singer in the well known local A’capella (Rock-a-pella) group, Cornerstone. His unmistakable bass voice, sense of humour, and abilities as a composer and arranger provided the foundation for the group’s sound.
In more recent years Robert K. has applied his talents to recording… first recording his own album, “Just Me” and then producing and engineering albums for other local artists. He has also recorded his 2nd album “Lessons In Love” and has more recently been seen as the drummer/vocalist in the The Blue Moon Band.
This multi-talented musician has now embarked on another project.
In his own words: “Finally, now that I have the freedom, it’s time to get serious about the thing I love the most… my music!” Robert K has always been known for his bass voice as part of a group but has recently been working hard to polish his unique style as a lead vocalist. From the enthusiastic response he’s receiving from his fans he’s got the right idea. This singer, and multi instrumentalist, is also an accomplished song writer and usually mixes an original song or two into each of his sets.
When fans are asked who Robert K sounds like, the consensus has been: “a combination of the deep soulful voice of Barry White, combined with the richness of Roger Whittaker and the smooth sound of Nat King Cole.” He has a rich, smooth “easy-to-listen-to” sound but because of his amazing vocal range and flexibility he can also get gritty when the song or the audience requires. Add to his awesome vocals some tasty tenor sax solos, versatile guitar playing and his engaging and friendly personality, Robert K’s music provides variety, that always leaves his audiences feeling good!
