I am often asked, “What style of music do you play?” I have difficulty answering this in a meaningful way because I just play the music I like. If I find a song that feels good to sing… I sing it. I don’t think much about genre.
So in answer to that question… below is a link to a copy of a song list I put on the tables at venues I play at to allow the audience to let me know what they want to hear.
There’s a mix of Jazz, R&B, Blues, Folk, Country, Rock, Show Tunes, & Pop.
One of the things I am aware of when I play is overcoming “listener fatigue”… so I try to mix in some instrumentals on the sax (like Black Orpheus or Take Five) with some smooth Jazz vocals like (Misty or My Funny Valentine) with some Gritty Blues (Nobody Knows Your When You’re Down and Out or Give Me One Reason) and some Country (Keeper of the Stars or Folsom Prison Blues) and a bit of Folk (Fire & Rain or Time In A Bottle) and some classic R&B (Let’s Stay Together or When a Man Loves a Woman) … I even try to throw in an original every now and then. The biggest problem I have is that there is never enough time to play all the songs I love.
